Kaunas University of Medicine is the largest institution of medical education and training in Lithuania. Its history goes back to 1919, when by the decision of Kaunas Medical Society the Higher Medical Courses had been established, which developed into the Faculty of Medicine of Kaunas University in 1922. Later on in 1950 the of Medicine was transformed into Kaunas Medical Institute, which in turn was reorganized into Kaunas Medical Academy in 1989. In 1998 Kaunas Medical Academy by the decision of Lithuanian Parliament was renamed in to Kaunas University of Medicine.
Kaunas University of Medicine is an autonomous university type medical institution financed by the State. The governing body of the Academy is the Academic Council, the executive function being assigned to the Recto rate.

| Kaunas is the largest industrial area in Lithuania. It is situated in the center of Lithuania, in the valley of the two longest rivers of Lithuania, Nemunas and Neris. Lithuania itself is located on the east side of the Baltic Sea. The chronicles first mention Kaunas in 1361 although it is known that people have lived in that area since the 3rd or 4th century. With a population of approximately 415,000 residents, Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania. It has developed into Lithuania's university center, with nine universities functioning in the city. Kaunas became the Sister City of Los Angeles on June 29, 1991. |

| The course of MBBS is of 6 years that includes the internship. The medium of instruction is English. The syllabus for the MBBS is purely European Union syllabus. The course starts in first week of September. Kaunas University of Medicine is a Government University and is recognized by World Health Organization and Medical Council of India. |
