Course Description
The Diploma of Systems Technology is approximately 10 months full time* or 33 months part time*. The course prepares you for a career in the use, installation and maintenance of Computer Hardware, Operating Systems and Networks. This course provides hands on sessions
and may include practical fi eld site training in a commercial computer facility.
This course offers training towards three highly sought Internationally recognised certifi cations: CompTia A+, N+ and Microsoft Certifi ed Professional.
 
What will I learn?

This course provides training in a range of skill sets

 

Identifying and understanding basic PC components
Installing, confi guring and troubleshooting a range of computer components
Design, installation and management of computer networks including network security
Installing, confi guring and upgrading operating systems (Windows 98, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP)

What do I need to start?
To ascertain whether you qualify for a course at Computer Power Institute, you must obtain a satisfactory result on our entrance assessment as well as an aptitude for handling computer components. Ideally, you will have successfully completed Year 12/UE or Bursary or have work experience behind you. Of course, you also need enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. No previous knowledge of IT is required to undertake this course.
 
Major Course Goals
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
Operate and maintain a personal computer
Identify, compare and operate different Computer components (Motherboards, RAM, CPU’s, Hard Drives, Printers, Portable P.C’s)
Install and confi gure Windows Operating Systems 98, NT 4.0, 2000 and XP
Install and troubleshoot computer peripherals
Configure and Administer a Local Area Network
Troubleshoot and resolve network problems and manage network security
Demonstrate communication, problem solving, time management, goal setting, planning and customer relation skills.
