Szczecin is a city situated in northwestern Poland, where the river Odra meets the Baltic Sea (through Szczecin Bay), and is the capital of a province, the Western Pomeranian Province.
It is one of the largest Polish cities, with the seventh largest population out of all the cities in the country and is inhabited by ca.420 thousand people. The city is located 12 km from the Polish-German border and 60 km from the Baltic Sea. The proximity of Berlin (150 km) is of great significance to Szczecin, as it is at present one of the most rapidly developing European metropolis.
Szczecin has a reputation of the 'greenest city' in Poland, and not without reason. There are few cities in Poland characterized of such richness of vegetation, water areas, and convenient climatic conditions for residence or tourism. Only an hour's journey by car, rail or waterway divides the residents of Szczecin from well-known seaside resorts: Swinoujscie (with its ferry services towards Denmark and Sweden), Miedzyzdroje, Dziwnow, and Rewal. The towns situated on Szczecin Bay enjoy no lesser popularity: Nowe Warpno, Trzebiez and Stepnica.
The city is also the Cultural heritage resource: the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes, the Gothic Cathedral, churches from XII century, the urban layout an hisorical structures XIX/XX century.
But probably the most interesting information for students is that there are lot of places to go out, such as pubs, discos and restaurants. Every week you can go to the concert, to the movies or to club. There are clubs with different kinds of music, so everybody can find something interesting.
